People ask me…

“Nolan, you’ve been through many health challenges. Why, and how do you have the energy to do what you do?”

I am only doing what I believe to be humanitarian work.

Being human, I feel that I must be part of restoring humanity. It allows me to fulfil my life purpose. In the process, it makes me feel good!

When three deaf people spoke at my 2019 company launch event, the late Khethiwe Madi left us silent when she asked, “What if all of you cannot hear what I am saying, and I’m the only one who can hear. “Who’s the one with the disability?”

Those words hit home for me, and I made it my life purpose to be a voice for the often voiceless deaf community and to do something important.

In 2019, I invited five deaf people to join me and a colleague to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.

We embarked on the climb in August 2022. It was a massive step for me. I almost died when I contracted Covid in 2021. I spent 13 days in ICU. And, then to top it all, I had a heart attack on December 2021, just eight months before we were supposed to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

No matter the obstacles I faced, I had to climb and keep my commitment.

You most likely face obstacles too. My only advice is that no matter how hard life is, or the number of obstacles you face, stay strong, keep your head up and push forward. The result is priceless!

I believe that once you set your mind on a goal, don’t stop until you achieve it. No matter how long it takes. You put it out into the universe because you were hungry to achieve it, weren’t you? So, make it happen, don’t stop now!

We did it!

Here we are, conquering Mt Kilimanjaro and giving two children the gift of hearing so that they can live their lives fully.

The Gift of Hearing is all about raising funds to purchase hearing aids or a cochlear implants for children born deaf, allowing them to live a normal life. By climbing Mt Kilimanjaro, we were able to gift two children with haring aids.

I hope that answers your question.
