That is a strong statement Nolan!
It was famously said by well-known people but I believe artist Jimi Hendrix was the first to quote it. “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace”.
I am speaking from a Global observation point of view, look around you and pick out the number of people or leaders as we call them, that are not putting the love for power above humanity.
The Love of power is a compulsive need to control a significant other in many areas. The compulsion comes from deep-seated self-esteem issues, that won’t let us believe that someone could just love us as-is. If I bring it back to my own country, the greed and corruption is beyond words, the chase for power is a politicians trump card!
Here are two examples of how “Love can be Powerful” that I would like to talk about,
- Forgiveness
- Self-Growth
Let’s start with Forgiveness. There are millions of people out there who are still holding onto the wrongs of the past. When they do this, it will always be a blocker in their lives and they will never move forward. My personal experience was being a victim of apartheid! Yes, it was not an easy part of our lives. By choice, I decided to forgive those who put us through apartheid and move forward stronger than ever. If you are following my journey, you will realise how much I have grown as a person, all with a simple rule of practicing forgiveness.
If you look at those in power now, they are carrying hatred within themselves which is leading them to be so hungry for power, no matter who is affected by their actions, they simply don’t care. Their love for power is more important to them!
Nolan, how about Self-Growth? How is this associated with the power of love?
I thought you would never ask…
When we grow from within as humans, it allows us to find out who we are. When we do this, we automatically see where else we need to work on ourselves. When we do this inner work, it allows us to work on our shadows, past trauma, self-sabotage, limiting beliefs, to name a few. During this journey of self-growth, we start to love ourselves first, which in turn allows us to love others gracefully and without hidden agendas.
Again look at those in power, they do not realise that they need to work on themselves because they are blinded by the love for power!
Is their work to be done on this topic, absolutely yes. My gut tells me that we should start with our leaders first. If not our leaders, let’s build a new generation that can lead authentically.
Wishing you an amazing week and don’t forget, keep practicing the Power of Love!
